How do you define wellness?
Don’t look at us.
The term “wellness” has taken over the health marketplace, but no one actually knows how to define it, simply because self-care means something different to everybody…well, it should. Some people find peace in yoga, others would rather take a hot bath.
Regardless of how you “zen” yourself, people are capitalizing on this wellness trend attempting to mold how we should define it. Wellness has become synonymous with a certain kind of luxury lifestyle that’s all about high-end experiences.
Eat super-food charged smoothies, mix moon powder into your coffee, spend $200/month on a yoga membership, attend weekend retreats and learn how to make your own matcha. You get the idea.
For most people, the “optimal wellness” lifestyle simply isn’t affordable. There are tons of other ways to show your body and mind love without breaking the bank.

Start your day with meditation
The idea of sitting in silence with your own thoughts is scary to some, but it can certainly start your day on the right track. It doesn’t need to take up too much time — 10 minutes is really all you need. There are several free meditation apps and podcasts out there that are great for beginners. We love Headspace.
Move. A lot.
Opt for the stairs instead of the escalator. Take the scenic route to work if you have time. Don’t eat your lunch at your desk–get up and take a lap around the building, or opt for lunch outside if you can. The more you move, the more endorphins you release. Endorphins = happiness.
Meal prep your way to success
We’re not asking you to load up your cart at Whole Foods or invest in a fancy meal delivery service (if that’s your jam, cool). Taking two hours of your day to meal prep for the week not only saves you money and time, it’s one less thing you have to stress over. There have been several studies that prove meal prepping can contribute to a higher quality of life. Load up that Tupperware — let’s get going.
Drink more water
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You hear this all of the time. But do you actually drink the recommended amount? The general rule of thumb is drink between half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound you weigh, every day. So, if you weigh 150 pounds, thats 75-150 oz a day. This is a simple wellness hack that is totally free and can make you feel exponentially better. We’re loving these options that help you track water intake.
Try to incorporate 10 minutes of meditation into your morning routine. Let us know how you feel after a week.
“The concept of total wellness recognizes that our every thought, word, and behavior affects our greater health and well-being. And we, in turn, are affected not only emotionally but also physically and spiritually.”
