It’s time to become the new you!

As 2022 comes to an end and we look excitedly towards the new year, now is the perfect time to reflect, plan and become the new YOU. Sure, it is important to rest, relax and spend time with friends and family, but this time of year also serves up a wonderful opportunity to reset your mind, improve your mental state and give yourself the best opportunity to achieve success in 2023, whatever that means to you.

Between work, family, and the various obligations we each have, relaxing is often something we don’t do enough of, or don’t do at all, certainly not in any meaningful way. Finding the time for ourselves doesn’t always feel possible when juggling so many balls at the same time. The good news is that relaxing is still effective if done correctly, even if you can only spare the occasional 5 minutes. Below are some great tips to help reap the maximum benefit from your relaxation time:

Especially useful if on the move, breathing exercises can have a powerful calming effect on your stress levels. The key is to breathe slowly and deeply, focusing your mind on each breath. There are several famous breathing techniques that many people have reported seeing great benefits from. If you would like to know more about them, click here.

It seems obvious, but a great way to ‘get things off your mind’ is to write them down. The simple act of writing out our thoughts can provide much needed clarity and an opportunity to release negativity. The very best way, from a scientific perspective, is to journal – especially if you use a journal that has been designed to help you practice gratitude. We’re so often consumed with negative thoughts that we fail to see the positive moments that happen each day. Gratitude practice is the tonic that can totally shift your perspective. Practicing visualization is a powerful tool that many of the world’s most ‘successful’ people do. Disconnect to connect

Technology is a marvel that impacts just about every area of our lives. For all its many benefits, developments in mobile phone technology, as well as social media algorithms, are partly responsible for a growing mental health crisis. We are all so connected in the virtual world that we have less and less time for each other in the real world. This is more than just a shame; it is fundamentally evolving the social bonds that humanity has relied upon for millennia, far faster than we’re able to keep up. Now is the time to make a small change. Did you know, for example, that our need for nature and real-world experiences is so strong that scientists have discovered that merely showing a person a photograph of nature can have a calming effect. Or that waking up to the sounds of birds (as opposed to traffic) is a huge marker for how refreshed you will feel once you are fully awake. Disconnect from social media and your mobile phone and replace the time you spend zombie scrolling with real-world experiences.
