Practice awareness

We talk a lot about mindfulness, but in practice, it can be really hard. Periodically throughout the day just pause. Take a moment and breathe. Be aware of your surroundings. Be grateful for your breath.

Create real connections

Cultivate relationships with your colleagues, the barista at your go-to coffee shop, a long lost friend. Simply interacting with other people in an authentic way can help you clear your mind.

Declutter your physical space

Studies show when the physical space around you is cluttered, your brain can feel the same way. If your desk at work is a mess, take 5 and clean it up. Instant gratification.

Move

Go for a walk. Take a lap around the office. Stretch in your chair. Anything that gets you out of your office slouch is effective! Movement has great physical and mental impacts — our bodies weren’t made to be in an office chair for 8 hours straight.

Take more breaks. Your mind will feel stuck if you stay stuck. Move, breathe, meditate.

Final Thoughts

“What you really want for yourself is always trying to break through, just as a cooling breeze flows through an open window on a hot day. Your part is to open the windows of your mind.”
