Winter is almost here. While some love the cold, others find it crippling and disruption in their every day routine — others experience seasonal depression, which scientifically, is more common than you’d think. 

We have compiled a list of things to get your morning started on the right foot, even if the weather outside is less than desirable. Maintaining consistency can be a huge help in fighting off anxious or depressive thoughts.

Create your own morning light

Waking up in the dark is hard to make your brain believe it’s morning. So we need to get some light in our room. Since the sun isn’t going to cooperate,
we need to make our own!

There are alarm clocks that have lights
that turn on like the sunrise and wakes you up.

Move

You know the common full body stretch we unconsciously do when we first wake up? It’s needed! Activating your muscles first thing in the morning allows for our body to wake up and prepare for the day ahead. If you’re a morning exercise person, great! Even if you just want to sit and meditate, that’s totally fine. Whatever your sense of movement is for the day, do that!

Hydrate with lemon

Instead of grabbing coffee first thing, try sipping warm water with lemon. It helps detoxified the body and we all know that hydrating is super important.

Leave earlier

It seems like time goes by the quickest in the morning while you are getting ready for work. This time of day tends to be more frantic, trying to get out of the door by a certain time to beat traffic (which is especially bad when it’s snowing outside). Try leaving ten minutes earlier than usual. It’ll help put your mind at ease AND keep your boss happy.
